30 Days on an Indian Reservation

I don't know if anyone is familiar with Morgan Spurlock's TV series 30 Days on FX, but I watched this episode where he spends a month living on the Navajo Nation, and it really reminded me of my own experience on Pine Ridge. In the episode, Spurlock talks about how present he felt while he was on the reservation. I had forgotten how powerful that feeling can be and how much I really want to stay connected with everything I had learned from the trip. I highly recommend watching it.

Trip Presentations

Summer post trip presentations & film viewing
(see what we did in: South Africa, Nepal, Pine Ridge, Israel & Palestine):
Sept. 9 5-6:30pm in MGC 200 (pizza)

Next Wednesday all the summer alt break trips will be presenting. So...... this is a great opportunity for a few of you to get together and work on a presentation! Katie has uploaded all of the videos on youtube so if you would like to make a movie that would be great! We have some really fun footage so it would be great to show some of it. Also this blog is a great way for everyone to put their two cents in on the presentation. Katie and I will definitely be helping you but it will be better if the presentation comes from the participants to prove you guys actually learned something. Email one of us to let us know if you're interested in working on the project.

Thanks!

Progress in South Dakota

Ya'll may have or may have not seen this, but it harkened back to many-a-circumstance we saw at Pine Ridge.

Looks like Eagle Butte has some good prospects for a healthy future!

SANC leadership needed

SANC, Student Advocates for Native Communities had its first executive meeting last Friday. There are many leadership positions available, since the president is currently studying abroad. If anyone is interested contact Katie at km6834a@student.american.edu. We could really use your help!

Also if anyone is interested in being in charge of the SANC website let us know. I created it towards the end of last year so there isn't much information yet. Check it out! http://sancau.wordpress.com/

Welcome

Hi Everyone!!!!

Katie and I were really glad to see you all on Monday night. Just kidding... Katie and I enjoyed are one on one time at Guapo's.

I recognize that its hard to get everyone together so I made this site for an easy way to keep in touch. We'll be posting events, articles, and links that hopefully you guys can check out. Please feel free to post anything you come across too.

Also, please feel free to plan your own get togethers or meetings on this blog. I hope you guys will use this tool as a way to collaborate on post trip activism
